Word Tour

Staring at your word list? Start doing.

Get the nudge you need to do the work, ten minutes a day, and get the stress of learning off your mind.

From staring to doing

Rereading feels like learning. But it only sticks when you have to do it yourself.

This does not stick

  • Rereading your list
  • Looking at the answer straight away
  • Everything on the last evening

This does

  • Typing every word yourself
  • A hint first, the answer only after that
  • Ten minutes every day

About Word Tour

Frequently asked questions

What is Word Tour?

Word Tour is a web app for learning vocabulary with your own word list. You put your words in, choose your test date and do a short set every day, like the stages of a cycling race. It works for any language and for other subjects too.

What does Word Tour cost?

Word Tour is free: pasting, Excel, CSV and Word, all the exercises, the route and the route book. AI help is Pro and is in private beta for now: anyone who wants to test along gets a code for free. Paying is not possible yet.

What does AI help do?

For every word in your list, AI help writes an example sentence with the word in another form, for example conjugated or in the plural, as on a test. With those you practise recognising the word and filling it in. AI help also makes questions from photos of your book and reads a photo of your word list. Without AI help everything else simply works.

How do I get a code?

AI help is in private beta. Mail laura@redfrontdoor.com and you get a code to test with. You fill it in when you switch AI help on. A code is for you or your family.

What can I learn with it?

Anything you can learn with flash cards: on the left what you need to know, on the right what it means. Vocabulary in any language, but also terms, capitals, animal names or medical terms. French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Latin and Greek have their own cycling race and colour. For modern languages Word Tour can read the words aloud and it checks articles and accents.

How do I put my words in?

Type or paste one word per line, for example la maison = the house. Or choose an Excel, CSV or Word file with two columns: the word and the meaning. A third column may hold an example sentence. With AI help on you can also take a photo of your word list.

Do I need an account?

No. Your progress is stored in the browser on your own device. If you want to continue on more devices, you log in with a code; for now you get one from us.

Does Word Tour use AI?

Only if you want it. AI help is one switch and it is off by default. As long as it is off, nothing happens with AI. If you switch it on, your words and the photos you choose go to Mistral AI, a French company with servers in Europe, to read them, make questions from them and write example sentences for them. Your name is not sent, and Mistral does not train its AI on them. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian gives permission first.

Does it work for Latin and Greek too?

Yes. For Latin and Greek you type the meaning in your own language, as on your test. Word Tour recognises notations such as rosa, rosae f by itself.

Can I use Word Tour as an app?

Yes. Put Word Tour on the home screen of your phone or tablet. Then it opens like a normal app and you can practise without internet too.

Stop staring. Start pedalling.

Free and without an account. Your first set is ready in a moment.
